Bed and Breakfast (B&BS)

(Lodging facilities which include breakfast in the cost of the room). B & BS offer an experience different from that of other lodging. B & BS appeal to weary travelers who desire personal service from steady innkeepers as opposed to an anonymous front desk staff.

B & B guests often seek a relaxing, private experience different from stays of most corporate travel. Repeat guests sometimes become part of the innkeeper’s life. Successful innkeepers learn about travelers’ families, their birthdays, and even their food preferences. A successful B&B would have amenities such as private baths, flexible cancellation policies to accommodate last-minute changes in travel plans, flexible check outs/ins to accommodate flight schedules, private key access so guests can come and go as they please, policies prohibiting children and pets, firm mattresses, desks, private telephones, exercise equipment, data ports, fax machines, and copy machines, most importantly; privacy.

There are a few different types of bed and breakfast lodging facilities. B&B homestays are private, owner-occupied residences with up to five guest rooms available to visitors. Breakfast is often the only meal served and is included in the charge for the room. B&B inns are commercially licensed businesses operated in a building that primarily provides overnight accommodations though the owner may live on the premises. The quantity of guest rooms for a B & B inn range from a minimum of four to a maximum of twenty-five.

Breakfast may be the only meal served, or other meals may be available. Country inns are commercially licensed businesses principally known for cuisine, usually away from commercial areas. Country inns present overnight accommodations and a full-service breakfast and dinner to overnight guests and/or the public. The number of guest rooms ranges from a minimum of four to a maximum of twenty.
